About the Event

Every summer, the town of Washburn, North Dakota hosts a two-day event called Lewis and Clark Riverboat Days. Located on the banks of the Missouri River, the festival celebrates the journey of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark during their historic exploration of the West in 1804. The celebration includes live music, local cuisine, artisans, crafts, and historical reenactments. It’s an exciting time for all who attend, as well as those living in Washburn that come together to enjoy this unique event!

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, such as taking part in a scavenger hunt, exploring the riverbank with a guided tour, or simply relaxing while listening to live music. Art exhibitions feature both contemporary and traditional works, while guest speakers offer educational talks about the history of the area. For those looking for something more active, there are also plenty of opportunities to canoe and kayak down the river, as well as fishing tournaments and other competitions.

Just outside of Washburn is the Charles M Russell National Wildlife Refuge where visitors can experience wildlife up close. Other popular destinations in the region include the Great Falls Park which showcases waterfalls and scenic trails, and Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site which offers interactive exhibits about the fur trade. There are also numerous restaurants, bars, and shops located around Washburn offering delicious meals and unique souvenirs.

Why do I need a reservation?

Public cruises fill up quickly. By completing a reservation online or by phone, you know your spot is saved. Reservations are required for lunch or dinner cruises and inform the amount of food prepared.

Can I ride the riverboat if I didn't make a reservation?

Maybe. You will need to check availability by stopping in the ticket office (1700 River Road N, Bismarck, ND).

Can I ride a lunch or dinner cruise without purchasing a meal?

Yes. You are not required to purchase a meal to ride the riverboat.

What happens if there is bad weather?

Our guest's safety is most important. In the event of high winds or extreme weather, the U.S. Coast Guard-trained master of vessel will determine whether it is safe enough for the cruise to commence. For the safety of all passengers, private charters and public cruises may be rescheduled or cancelled, in the event of reschedule or cancellation a voucher will be offered.

Can I bring food or drink on the riverboat?

No personal outside food or drinks are allowed. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase on all cruises. A cash bar is available for private and public cruises.
